Fuel delivery/ Carburetor

Asked by May 24, 2018 at 12:10 PM about the 1978 Chevrolet Blazer

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello my name is Ricardo. I’m new to these online forums
and in need of some help obviously. I currently have a 78
K5 Blazer that I bought not too long ago. When I bought it
the previous owner had just thrown on a junk quadrajet
carb on to get it running. It eventually started flooding on
me and giving me issues so I decided to replace it instead
of rebuilding it. I replaced it with an edelbrock 1406 600
cfm. Just replaced it yesterday. After finishing the swap I
got to start it up and it just cranks. I’m not getting any fuel
to the carburetor and I only know this because there’s no
fuel going through the in line fuel filter. I can hear the
pump turning on when the switch is opened. I thought
maybe the battery was low so I went to jump it to give it a
little juice. Once I connected the jumper cables they
started smoking and melted my cables. Could a ground
shirt be causing this? I’m not sure at all. Any info helps.
The blazer was running fine before the carb started
flooding and gaskets went bad. Any info helps. Thanks.
