1956 Chevy Sedan Delivery

Asked by Aug 28, 2019 at 04:15 AM about the 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1956 Chevy Sedan Delivery, 350 Chevy
small block. Powerglide automatic transmission.
Carter performance series 4 barrel carb. Will hold
idle in park or nuetral but dies as soon as I put it in
drive or reverse. Why??? Please any help will be
appreciated. Not sure if it is a 150 or a 210 though.

This is a defective torque converter solenoid, or a transmission internal pressure problem due to leaking seals (forward & reverse). Might be as simple as a vacuum leak, or as big as a transmission overhaul.
