Hot rear brake drum on 1998 Corolla

Asked by Jun 13, 2017 at 12:43 PM about the 1998 Toyota Corolla

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My driver-side rear brake drum seems to
get hot after driving for a while (50kms, for
instance), whilst the other brake drum
becomes warm, but not as hot. The wheel
cylinder has been changed, seems to
make no great difference. What is the
normal operating temperature that can be
felt when touching the drum by hand? The
brake doesn't seem to drag. The
approximation for the temperature in the
drum is that I can hold a hand to it, but
only for a few seconds or so.
