After 6 months of sitting thru the winter, battery dead, change battery, car starts fine, get in to drive, car will not shift out of park into any gear??

step on the brake to shift out of park- failing that, maybe mice moved in?

Did that first, thinking it might be a blown fuse,[ Mother In=Laws car ] and she does not have manual. In fuse panel if that's the problem what and where to look in a 2003 Toyota Echo?
