Alarm + VSC TRAC, TRAC OFF, ABS, Emergency Brake Light On

check your brake fluid if low all those lights will come on, but not the tire monitor light.

Is this still happening?/. Just happened to my husband this AM. All the lights and the siren - went for a few minutes then it stopped and seems fine to him. Wondering if you had more repairs? Thanks!

cjsras: thank you for the tip about the fluid. I haven't checked it yet, but we haven't had this happened anymore... also, we have both the remote and key, and the two times it's happened it's been with both. Kens-toyota: it has been about 2 weeks since it has happened, so hopefully it were 2 isolated incidents. I was told by two private mechanic shops and a Toyota dealership that it could be isolated occurrences, or a sensor going bad, or the ABS or computer system needing repair. That latter would be the worst case scenario. I'll provide an update should this happen again. I appreciate the responses!

Great to hear that you didn't have occur a lot! Ours is using key. I called Toyota as well and he said because we had unusual cold temps this am it could of affected it. That we shouldn't worry. We are at 183,000 so interesting that it's happening to us both at that Mileage!hopefully it's all a fluke for us both! Thanks!1

My daughter's 2003 4Runner (141,000 mi) had the same: ABS & brake indicator lights as well as trak, VSC and audible alarm. She was driving when the warnings came on. A minute later, the car in front of her hit their brakes (to avoid another car). She hit her brakes and, when they didn't respond and her brake pedal got hard, she swerved into the next lane. Thank God, there were no other cars around and she ended up hitting the car in front of her. It will cost $3600 in body repair and $3700 to repair the anti-lock brake and brake assist systems. My 4runner hit just over 200,000 miles. Then all the sudden I heard beeping, the dash light up with all the warming light, then about 2 minutes later, the engine stopped. I had it in the shop for a full inspection and fixes a few months ago so I'm not sure what could cause that.

My 2003 4 Runner is doing the same thing. The high pitch sound happens almost every time I turn on the car. I’ve had the car looked at and nothing seems to be wrong. Maybe it’s a malfunction in the Toyota 4Runner after a certain amount of miles????

My 2007 Lexus Rx350 just did it. Didn’t affect The drivability. Have 57,350 miles on it. Just had in for regular maint about a month ago. Did this several years ago and not again til now?

Im having a similar issur 02 toyota 4 runner at 225k miles and the VSC Track, Trac Off, ABS lights are on. No alarms though? Any thoughts?

It’s been over a year since I first posted in here - Toyota’s looked at it several times and never found a reason for it - they will reset it and it will stay off for a bit - then comes back on - we’ve only had the high pitched alarm sound once and that was over a year ago - just about to hit 200k -

The same thing just happened to me I have about 162,000 miles on it , 2004, it was driving OK I pulled out of my driveway into my neighborhood and luckily before I pulled out onto the busy road I decided to back up and test it and suddenly my brakes completely went out I had to use the emergency break and out of panic I slammed it into park. Can anyone update how they fixed it and cost? I saw estimates of over $3000 in the above comments

I have a 2006 4Runner SR5, when my husband accidentally drained the transmission fluid when changing the oil (oops! Apparently a common issue with the arrangement of the undercarriage) 6 years ago I took it to a Toyota dealership because they were the only ones who could replace the transmission fluid and they replaced....my brake pedal? If Im not mistaken, that is what it was and that was because there was a recall on it. But 2 years ago I had the issue of all my lights coming on, no warning alarm, and I read to unplug the battery cable and then if the lights go off it is fine. I did that and in the past two weeks I’ve had issues with low RPMs, odd steering and delayed acceleration. Once the delayed acceleration started happening I pulled over checked fluids etc all seemed fine, decided to go to a friends house to let car cool off some and check out then.....everything seemed fine and at this point I had no lights on. I went home then 3 days later the lights were on I reset and they went away and they’ve done this 3 more times since. 4Runner just rolled over 196k today so I don’t know what’s going on!!!

06 highlander. With the exact same story. Whatever it is they were not in a hurry to figure it out. Same problem for at least 5 years on several different models. I thought I had read about a recall for our years for this matter but when I asked my local toyota dealer he kinda laughed and informed me it would cost me at least 3000.too fix it

Been having the same problem for two years. No mechanic could fix it. Extra smoke was coming out of the exhaust. It was stuck in 4lo, check engine, etc. Every time I’d take It to a mechanic, it would work fine—until it didn’t. Over 2 years these are the similarities. Extreme temps—hottest days or coldest days. Sudden stops. Sitting for a weekend or minimal driving. These combined factors make it happen. My theory is that it’s a protection mode by Toyota and happens in older model vehicles. When some conditions are met. I’m not sure what those conditions are. My solution is to disconnect the negative terminal for 5 mins to reset it. It works fine for 3-6 months. Sometimes it resets on its own, sometimes I disconnect the terminal. Disconnecting the terminal will reset it if it’s norhing serious.

Having all the issues mentioned in 2004 4Runner. I have disconnected battery and it resets. This has happened twice..wondering if this is headed for a major expense.

Turn the key to on the on position, don't start the truck, have someone pump the brakes. Open the hood and listen for the electric motor on the bottom of the brake booster. It's under the brake fluid reservoir, the black cylindrical thing. If the motor is not running, that's your problem. Remove the motor. Get it rebuilt for like 200 bucks at any place that rebuilds electrical motors. If the motor is running constantly, its the accumulator that is bad. Buy a new one on eBay for around $250... Had a local mechanic replace both of these parts, charged me 2 hours worth of labor... Really the motor and accumulator are the only 2 parts of the brake booster that go bad, please don't spend the 3 grand the dealer chargers to replace the whole assembly

My sons 2001 4-Runner SR5 with 200K miles just did exactly the same as described in all above posts . The alarm sound is so excruciatingly loud it’s hard to even determine where it’s coming from! Guess I’ll try the motor & accumulator suggestion since it’s the only fix mentioned.

Hi All, I have a similar symptom with the lights. (2004 4runner 160,00 miles) but. I have the additional behavior of a pulsing of the brake pads and a weakening of the car's ability to stop. This is intermittent, as others have reported, and while it starts with the lights, the bad braking may continue for a while. Stopping the car and starting seems to change the behavior and hard braking is not necessary to start it. This occurred shortly after a significant brake job which included rotors, pads, and calipers.

Master cylinder needs replaced the f that’s happening. Which is costly

So just happened to me. 2003 Toyota 4Runner sr5, just hit 200k. I was told it was my entire abs module. And needed to be replaced. 5000 new. I said no way they got me a refurb for under 2k but had to do my brakes and calipers too. They were russstty. But it’s been a few weeks and it just a started happening again. Going to mechanic tomorrow.

This happen to me and it was my ABS Module Sensor was bad.

THE VSC,ABS,TRC,AND E-BRAKE LIGHTS ALL ON-->>BUT WITH (NO CHECK ENGINE) LIGHT ON BUT AN ALARM IS A CONFIRMED ISSUE WITH YOUR BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP MOTOR. I HAVE A CUSTOMEER WITH SAME ISSUE 2000 YOTA 247,000MILES WITH NO ISSUES ATR ALL UNTIL NOW. MOTOR IS UNDERNEATH THE MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE FLUID FILL TANK. TRY TAPPING ON IT WITH A WRENCH OR SMALL RUBBER MALLET. IT SHOUKLSD KICK IN FOR A SEC ASND GO OFF ALSO REPLACE THE THREE RELAYS IN THE SMALL BOX ON PASSENGER SIDE INNER FENDER UNDER HOOD MARK THEIR LOCATIONS, STANDING AT THE FENDER FACING LOOKING DOWN AT THE BOX THERE SHOULD GO PINK BOTTOM LEFT OF BOX, BLUE BOTTOM RIGHT OF BOX, AND THEN JUST ABOVE THE BLUE, SHOULD BE GREEN AT THE TOP RIGHT CORNER OF THER BOX. CHANGE THEM ALL AND YES THEIR PRICEY BUT DO IT! ITS FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY AND WILL ENSURE PROPER VOLTAGE IS GOING TO THE PLACES IT NEEDS TO GO TO. TRY THE RELAYS FIRST IF YOU GET THE MOTOR WORKING BY TAPPING ON IT. THAT MAY JUST BE THE ISSUE.. BUT MOST CASES WHERE ALL LIGHTSA AND AN ALARM AN DNO POWER BRAKES WITH NOI CHECH ENGINE LIGHT IS ALWAYS GOING TO BE THE BOOSTER PUMP MOTOR IF YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THAT YOU MAY AS WELL REPLACE THE MASTER CYLINDER AND TANK AS WELL BECAUSE IT ALL HAS TO COME OUT ANYWAY. TRUST ME IT WILL SAVE YOU LABOR IN CASE THE MASTER IS OUT AS WELL. DONT LET THESE SHOPS RIP YOU OFF. THEY WILL TELL YOU ANYTHING TO GET YOUR MONEY AS THEY KNJOW YOU ARE AT THEIR MERCY AND THEY KNOW THEY CAN SAY ANYTHING AND YOU WILL TRUST THEM. DONT! sorry for the spelling my typing skills suck. but I hope you got it all. good luck and remember to replace the relays first if you get the motor running by tapping on it. if you hear the motor running for a long while and then stops, then its definitely the motor going out. also look up resetting your yaw and deceleration programming which will take place inside the diagnostic box by the battery with a jumper wire.thgat will reset the vac arc abs and brake lights after there pump motor is fixed. flat surface is also required to do this reset.
