Trac control, vsc, engine light comes on!

Asked by Travelertwin Aug 26, 2016 at 12:18 PM about the 2005 Toyota Highlander

Question type: General

I had my timing belt, water pump, radiator hoses and plugs recently done on
my 2005 highlander, it has 233,000miles. This was just preventive
maintenance.  On my trip, out of nowhere, the trac, vsc, engine lights all
popped up. Took it to auto shop and also looked up your page here!! Your
page was a godsend!! While waiting for the repair guys to do paperwork, I re
tightened the gas cap and disconnected the battery neg side and the codes
were gone! The kid at shop finally came out and put a obd tester on, as I
wanted to be sure, and my car had NO codes pop up. I continued my trip, all
running fine. Now I am in higher altitude climate, and as I reached my
destination, the lights popped back on again. I am going to check all my
fluids, and add if necessary.  Do you have any other suggestions what to try,
as I have no codes pop up and highlander seems to be fine??

To all, I purchased a new gas cap, put it on, the code lights went on one more time. I disconnected the battery for about 30 seconds then reconnected, and the lights have not come on since. So I figured it out.

After my 2013 Highlander V6 was jump started the engine check + trac off lights were on. Same solution - disconnect neg bat cable for a minute and checked gas cap. Magic! The warning light gremlins disappeared.

I had same issue, Check Engine + TRAC OFF came and no control over gass, it's not giving enough power to the wheels, so as per internet search, checked the gas cap and did the VSC ON / OFF, didn't fix the issue, so finally I checked all fuses in the fuse box, found one fuse 10A went bad for ETCS, after replacing the ETCS 10A fuse, everything came up normal .. :)
