Short in the wiring

Okay i just replaced the steering column in my 90 Chevky K1500. when the wheel is straight the lights dim out, but when the wheel is turned in either direction the lights are normal. My tail lights and brake lights are also out, but they werent before. When my left signal is on it runs bright and strong but the right signal is almost like my hazards the left is dim and slow but the right is strong. Any ieas where the short could be.

did you repalce the entire assembly or just the shaft that goes through?

i only replaced the column i didnt touch the wires themselves.

i have a 95 chevy c1500 v8 200k plus miles. new battery. seems to short out and die, and wont restart. when key is turned on the amp gauge barely moves up. ive tried fumbling with the obvious wires (+ - wires etc) with no change. its done this once before. i let the truck sit for about a month then bought a new batt and problem went away. today while driving it died, with the same symptoms. also ive notice that when driving the blinkers make the amp gauge fluctuate down with every flash. thanks in advance for response 11 Answers
