Do the brake lights work? If not check the brake light circuit, switch and fuse, the brake light switch also activates the release solenoid for the shifter.

yep the brake lights work, how do you know if the solenoid works and where do I find it?

You can actually hear it work if everything is off inside the rig, the doors closed and the key in just the on position, lightly step on the brake pedal and listen for the click. look up to the left side of the colum, you will see two two rods parallel to each other. the one on the left (pass side) connects to the switch. it is the painted one. the other connects to the shifter. With a large flat screw driver, simply pry this rod off its connector. I zip tied the rod to the bracket. this will keep it from falling back in the way. It now shifts from park with ease. this does not affect any other operation of the vehicle. time 5 min, cost one zip tie. Courtesy of you tube
