I have a 98 s10 that with a po342 code that is false i want to clean the connectors from the pcm to the instrument cluster wire that sets off the check engine light hoping that will solve my problem.

Check the camshaft position sensor and the wiring going to it. Code P0342 means that the computer is getting an erratic signal from the camshaft position sensor. Hope that helps! Jim
