How are the engines in a 1998 chevy 3500

Looking at a 1998 Chevy 3500 diesel wrecker.   How are they for towing and how do they hold up?

It most likely has the 6.5 turbo diesel. They are ok work horses. Decedent's of the old 6.2 military diesel. But I would prefer most power strokes and any Cummins over it. Power wise it tends to be towards the bottom
