Problem : cold start fine- will drive 10,20,30 minutes somewhere, turn key off, come back to vehicle10 minutes. This happens more than 50% of the time - Engine will start, shut down in 20-30 seconds**
Trouble with engine shutting down-Mr. Blue Oval, hope you may help. I have a '76 Bronco, 302 , 4b carb. MSD ignition system installed, has electric fuel pump with filter , vehicle has the two fuel tanks.*****Try starting immediately again, it will just crank, wont start up. I'll wait 5-10 minutes, it will start & shut down in 30 seconds....and so on & so on. It shuts down as if key turned off.--pulled fuel line off carb, it's squirting fuel. Did not check pressure with gauge. New plugs, wires, cap. , checked fuel lines from tank to carb. Fuse panel - says painless wiring fuse associated "ignition" is good (continuity) , wires, where key goes all connected.
Added to question : Cold start , 1st of day, engine will run fine. when turn off, if try to start 10 minutes later it will just crank, if wait about 30 minutes it will start and run for 30 seconds and then engine shuts down. try starting immediately- will just crank, wait 10 minutes, starts then shuts down 30 seconds & so on
Any leads, direction in area would be greatly appreciated. Trail and error is so frustrating.
Well this is sounding like a fuel issue to me. It will start and run so not thinking electrical at the moment. i see you did not check fuel pressure, probably should. That carb only needs 6 to 8 lbs. I would let it build up pressure and see if it holds pressure. If not maybe the carb is flooding.
