I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado. In the past two years the truck has died, at random, while driving. This usually occurs when the gas is between 1/4 and 1/2 a tank. So I have been keeping the truck over half a tank. Though it was driving fine yesterday, this morning it began sputtering (heavily) when i accelerate and i can smell smoke. What could this be?

First thing you want to do is have the vehicle scanned for trouble codes. This will tell you what needs to be looked at. An auto parts store can do this for you. Write the codes down.
