Ive a 2007 Shelby GT500 5.4 litre supercharged SVT model which Im having ignition system troubles with - AFTER some modifications
Ive owned the car since new and brought it home here in New Zealand 3
years ago having purchased it in the Arabian Gulf. About 3 months ago I
took the car to have some modifications done including fitting of a bigger
supercharger pulley and belt, a new cold air blower and performance
exhaust. The professionals that installed this equipment obviously did the
computer controller requirements needed to get the car operating well. After
the mods the car is fantastic. A lot more responsive and sounds fantastic.
Straight after the mods I found that after a day or two, the car refused to
start. You get in and turn the key (with clutch pedal down of course) and all I
got was a single click sound and no starter motor actuation. There were
other minor issues too.....the boot release switch wouldnt operate and small
minor electronic glitches that were not there before. I returned the car to the
Modifier who said that it was probably the fuses but also suspected an
"Electronic Controller problem". After a couple of days he claims to have
"recalibrated the controller" as best he could and fixed some "fuse issues".
The car started OK after repair and had been being going very well for just
over a month.....till a trip to a remote area with family this last weekend -
when again the same issue arose......no ignition and a single click noise
when trying to start.
I was able to crawl under the car and run a wire between the Solenoid and
starter motor to start the motor to get me home.....Its not a battery issue as
its holding a full charge and windows and locking work OK with the key
Fob....
This ignition problems only surfaced since the mods were done. I drove it for
about 6 years prior without issue with the ignition.
The Modifier already charged me considerably for fixing this issue once but
now claims its probably a "Controller fault issue and dust from the Gulf
problem that may require an expensive replacement Controller". He doesnt
recommend taking the car to an Auto Electrician because he claims
"disagnostic equipment will stuff up my newly modified engine computerised
settings"
I really need some further advice on this....Can anyone help me please?
