Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i have a problem getting my baby to start, was running , drove home ,
turned it off and when i went to start it next day it would not fire, a4 b5 v6
1997 2.6lt
checked , fuel pump , filter and pressure, seems to all be ok there is fuel
and pressure at the fuel rail and at the pressure relief valve .
battery all ok , turns over a few times then coughs then continues to turn
over without firing.
checked injectors and there is power at the injector leads when turning
over, checked all fuses on fuse panel and even big ones under dash.
runs all be it very rough if i spray engine start in the intake but stops
immediately when i stop spraying.
have also tried resetting computer by disconnecting battery as i saw on
another forum but no change.
have made sure all the relays are plugged in properly.
i am out of knowledge and options any help appreciated..
thanks

Just because you have fuel pressure does not mean you have the correct pressure for the vehicle to run. Have a fuel pressure test done to make sure it is pumping at the correct pressure.

hey had the pressure checked and mechanic said there is little or no pressure on his gauge.. will try nw fuel pump and hopefully this is the problem will let you know chees

hey back again. so i got a new fuel pump and still no go, also replaced filter, found a slightly damaged o ring in the top of one of the injectors. would that be enough to drop the pressure and tell the sensors there is not enough pressure and there for not start the engine ?

No not really would make it run rough like it is missing. Did you also replace the fuel pressure regulator ?

yup i have another a4 the same that is going and swapped the regulator and no change the other one still goes fine.

no its not.

Sounds like the fuel injectors are not working check for blown fuse for injectors.

Checked all fuses when first had problem, just checked again and all are good. have measured up to 12V at injector plug when cranking and have measure resistance of injector and all ok.

If you are getting power to the injectors ( I see you checked with a a meter but I would check with a noid light this is a light you plug into injector connector and it lights up showing there is power going to injector when vehicle is cranking. If power going to injectors it has to be bad injectors now all of them going bad at the same time is very rare.

Ok will get it checked out and let you know. Thanks

hey i have had the injectors checked and all is ok with them, but now i have no spark at the plugs !!!!. have decided to trash it for spares for my other one and get something else as it is not worth spending too much more money on it to find out what is wrong. thanks for your help and time anyway . still wish i knew what it was it is frustrating not knowing.
