Engine knocking

Question type: General

The car was sitting for 15 years and I did a oil
change on it and now it's knocking it sounds like a
spun bearing but it's on the top of the engine and
it's not consistent. Tried adding oil addatives  and
they would quite it or some days the sound won't
be there. I was gonna check the bearings one day
but there was a lot of stuff in the way so I had to put
the old oil back in the car and the noise is gone. I
have no  idea what the noise is and I need help

If it did not knock before when you parked it, probably just has to loosen up any varnish build up. You shouldn't of put the old oil back in. Put some 10W30 back in change the oil filter again with a cleaning additive, and let it work.

If old oil was dirty, you may have clogged oil veins or passages, you'll need to flush system out

Did you put oil in the car the first time or did you forget it? There is no way putting old oil back in would quiet the engine unless it was 90 weight.
