My son's 1992 Paseo won't start. Do you think it has something to do with a jury-rigged alarm system from the previous owner? Can it be fixed to where the car starts again like it did?

It has a new battery, still won't start.
We dismantled alarm but the car won't start. Could it be the ignition coil?
start with the basics...fuel pressure..got fuel pressure when you put the key to the ON position...power to the coil...do you have power to the coil yet?~
test power to the ignition coil...buy one of these cheap testers~
I have fuel power but no ignition...
power TO the ignition switch? power FROM the ignition switch...fuse for ignition? relay (maybe not, but worth investigating)~
checking on an ignition relay...sometimes they have these...also there is an ASD relay that shuts everything down in the event of a collision~
I have no power to the spark plug wires
okay here's a vast smorgasbord of ignition related items...you could start checking for voltages with that fancy 5 dollar tester there~

Ok, and if I have 12 volts at the coil, that means it's bad and I need to replace it?
no that means the high voltage circuit is hot~ the secondary has 40,000 volts...that one's not too easy to test...use a sparkplug to test it...if the secondary does not produce spark voltage...then would replace the coil~
For your original question: Yes, it could. That's what catches attention here is "we dismantled alarm" so it was eliminated or re assembled. either way you might want to 'go there' and check wiring. A wire could have been left off or severed that is the culprit

Yay! We fixed it! The problem was that the alarm had a switch located way up under the steering column and dash. When it was flipped up, the car turned over and works like a gem! Whomever installed the alarm system didn't do a very good job. It never worked when we bought the car, so we decided to just take it out. Thanks for all your help and suggestions!
Distributor. Check it. A non working distributor will cause your car not to start. The fact that your sparks are getting no power points to a distributor that isnt functioning like it should.

What code would come up for a bad ecu. Mine just keeps blinking and never gives a code. It just keeps blinking when I do a dignostic test
Did you find your answer? I've got the same. I had a code 24 but didn't have the definition. Then I went back to see if it had changed after I cleaned, tested and adjusted the TPI (thinking it was the MAS) but now I'm getting the blink of death code-nonstop. Don't know what it means but the Paseo drives like the catalytic convert is cursed.
