2003 Prius battery charging

Asked by Aug 07, 2019 at 09:54 AM about the 2003 Toyota Prius

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We inherited 2003 Prius with 222K miles for our 15 year old. She is not
driving regularly. I was going to use it as my primary car until she is ready to
drive it regularly so we can keep the battery healthy (a mechanic just said it
seems fine) but we are worried about putting more miles on it. Any thoughts
on how often it needs to be driven to keep the battery healthy? How often
does it need to be driven? Are increased miles a real concern? Can we just
turn it on every once in a while to charge it or does it need to be driven?
Basically trying to decide if I need to make it my primary car or not.
