The red light is probably the security system indicator. You may need a new battery. How old is the one you have?

Huh? Dying battery does NOT cause rapid security light flashing. This oldie may need a new battery anyway, but I think a door is ajar.

believe battery is 2 yrs old. weather here in Oregon is not severe in winter so don't think cold has hurt the b! attery.o my subaru mechanic shut down for holidays and is swamped with appointments for long time. Think I should just chance it and hope it doesn't die on me or just gWao buy new battery. Where? Walmart? Thanks to everyone for your responses

Best new battery scenario right now is nice Interstates at COSTCO for only $80.

The new battery recommendation is not because of the red light but because they have a hard time starting the car.

Yes, it is the anti theft. but never noticed it before, flasining so rapidly. seems like it was always a slow flash on - off. Now is almost solid red it's flashing so fast.

Try to take a break, as rapid pupil "bouncing" can trigger epileptic fits or worse!

TheSubaruGuruBoston OK, I openly admit that I "Know Nothing!" about my Subaru. I must have been having delusions - but I'm allowed that because I'm a girl. That's why I turned to you men. It is your job to know these things. I wouldn't want to take your jobs away from you! But, seriously, I am very happy that you guys know what you are doing and I have a place to ask my silly questions. Respectfully, Sharon

Oh c;mon, Sharon. I've known many female wrenches...and engineers, so please don't bait sexism, eh? Look for an unclosed hatch or door.
