Why is my car knocking?

I drove my car yesterday and everything was fine. I
went to crank it this morning and at first it acted
like it did not to carnk and then when it did it was
making an awful knocking noise and after a
minute the check engine light started blinking.Its a  
2004 Saturn Ion 3.....any idea what it can be???

Check and see if there is any oil in the engine. I suspect you might have a rod knock but in any case do what tennis says and have it towed to a mechanic. Driving it will probably destroy the engine.
