car wont start properly

Asked by alexrandall1685 Mar 30, 2016 at 09:14 AM about the 2002 Audi A4

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i have a 2002 audi a4 1.9 tdi since ive bought it in october 2015 ive had to
give the car lots of gas and wait up to 30 seconds for the car to actually
start, once the car has initially started you can turn it off and theres no more
problem untill the car has sat for about 3+ hours

i had the car serviced with a new fuel filter, glow plugs oil change etc which
made no difference,so next i changed the battery and once again it made
no difference,if anything it seems worse as i think the amps given out by the
battery are lower than the 1st battery. i appear to be just be throwing money
at a problem but cannot find the cause

ive had a look on a few other forums and the solenoids keep getting
mentioned, would really appreciate some advice on how i should move
forward with this

thanks guys

Sounds like a you are most likely having a starter issue. I would guess the car sounds like it is taking longer and longer to start. If starting the car sounds slow then i would say the starter is no good. had the same thing happen to mine before i found the copper wire between my points and solidified rotted off.

thanks for the input Firstly the starter motor seems to fire properly, every time, if anything im worried im going to burn it out with the excessive firing, ill mention it to the guys in the garage thou as soon as ive got a few quid spare thanks

ive looked over a few forums and there is alot of mention of a coolant temp sensor causing this issue. I must enforce that you must Not buy cheap on this part since the cheap parts often result in the same issue after replacement as they throw the wrong info to the ecu. a few other things mentioned were an air temp sensor just behind the front bumper and air in the fuel due to a excessive pressure in the line (bubbling will show) between the fuel pump and the fuel filter. this is apparently what some one installed to fix the bubbling issue. http://www.idparts.com/pd-in-tank-lift-pump-a4-bew-p-585.html. hope this all helps.
