99 pontiac sunfire wont start, Anti theft ?

Asked by Aurora_1098 Feb 15, 2017 at 12:30 PM about the 1999 Pontiac Sunfire

Question type: General

tried Johns method but my theft light does not go out after 10 or even 45 mins. Does it have to go out? The car tries to start then dies as if it is being shut down by the anti-theft fuel shut off. Also the key wont start(or even crank) the car in the start position. It goes to the run position and I use a starter button to engage the starter. The ignition switch is new but this is what the old one did that started this whole episode. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You will need to have the anti-theft system re-set at the dealership...

it is going in tomorrow for that, hope that is all it takes, very frustrating to have to deal with them for such an old car. Thanks let you know
