Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2003 A6 1.9 TDI (Multitronic) has a problem starting when warm. The engine judders quite violently but does not start for some time. Get worse the hotter the engine becomes. After a long drive it become even more difficult to start.. It starts fine when cold runs fine and pulls great. Starter motor is fine.

The local agents say that the flywheel needs to be replaced. Difficult to belive this.

Appreciate any clues on where the problem could be and how to solve the problem.

I could be something electrical...or a coolant issue...

Is this an automatic, or a stick? If it is a stick, you may well need to have the flywheel resurfaced, and replace the clutc. If it is an automatic, the problem could be in a variety of engine control elements. Does the Check Engine light come on?

It is a Multitronic and I am now trying to replace the flywheel. I have been told there is some gel inside the flywheel that gets worn out. Would know in week or two.
