Breaks grinding and grabbing

On my girlfriends 01 pontiac sunfire when i press on the
breaks the passenger side rear tire drops and you hear a
nasty grinding sound so i bought new drums and shoes
and when i took the tire off the drum was baby smooth
and the break pads had 90% still their i can't figure out
what is makeing the rear drop like that nor the nasty
grinding noise their are no signs of grinding or wear
anywere on the hub

I wonder if the wheel bearing is bad or if something is worn or broken in the suspension.

Check the wheel movement, jack up the car and see if the wheel can be moved IN and OUT by pressing on the tyre RIM I had this and had about 1/4 inch IN/OUT movement by pushing on the edge of the tyre, It was probably the bearing HOUSING so I used LOCKTITE bearing retainer, and the wheel was stable ( next day) apparently that small movement could cause the shoes to grab when turning right ( this was on the left rear wheel)
