don't know why my car won't start

My car died when I came to a stop at a red light. I
didn't realize it had died until I tried going again.
After that I tried starting it and the only sound it
makes is the starter winding up. It doesn't sound
like its trying to turn over at all. Just electronic
winding from the starter. Any clue what it could
be?
