2002 sun fire won't start

Asked by Megancb Mar 19, 2013 at 09:12 PM about the 2002 Pontiac Sunfire

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2002 sunfire won't start. It tries to
turn over but the engine doesn't
catch. It has just under a half tank of
gas. We tried jumping the battery.
The overhead lights and radio come
on but the lights on the dash don't
work. We checked all of the fuses
that have anything to do with the
dash and still no luck. My fuel pump
was replaced oct 2011, the battery
was replaced 3 years ago and the
starter 4 years ago.

If the engine is spinning but not firing, try some starter fluid. If it fires, you have a fuel problem. Probably a bad pump.

GM has a pass lock 2 security system on the vehicle which is usually tied into the cluster. If your cluster is having power issues then your vehicle won't start. Its a feature to prevent people from buying a low mileage cluster and installing it to make it seem like the car has less mileage.
