Battery won't charge?

Asked by Jonn1980 Sep 11, 2015 at 11:49 PM about the 2002 Pontiac Grand Am

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have put 3 alternators on all good before installation. But, after I put them on they still only have an output of 11-12 volts. I bought new battery and made sure volts were 12.5-12.6 on new batterys before installation. but still have same problem. Any suggestions? Car in question is 2002 Pontiac grand am GT coupe v6 3.4 L ram air.

If you are only measuring alternator output at 12 volts you are measuring battery voltage. If the alternators test good off the car you have an open connection to battery positive.
