Decrease in gas mileage

Asked by DavidAU Jan 28, 2008 at 09:35 PM about the 2003 Pontiac Vibe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have enjoyed my 2003 Vibe since I bought it new.  I was consistently getting 30mpg for years.  Now in the last month it has slipped to 25 - 26mpg and that is mostly highway miles.

Any ideas on what is happening?

You dont mention your mileage (miles on the car), when a car comes in with this issue I normally recommend a "emmission" service, this is what is included, Flush injectors, remove and clean throttle plate, replace air filter, replace PCV valve, I also recommend a oil change after this service, as well when I am doing the "emission" service I look at the plugs and wires, 90% of the time plugs will need to be done, I also do a scan on the car, maybe a sensor is out, or some thing has gone wrong, Your O2 (oxygen) sensor might also need to be replaced. And I would recommend a new fuel filter. Some customers also have told me that a coolant flush has really helped there mileage. To do all this is a bit pricey (about $400) for your car, but it will run like new again (that price is if there is nothing else wrong, sensor, scan might show something) I know it is alot, and there is alot invloved, but in the end the car always runs great after, A few customers have reported the best milage they ever got after this service, I really hope this helps and best of luck, cheers
