Changing the oil

Should my car be hot or cold when I check
the oil on my Sunfire 2003 2.2

It's more accurate if you check it like in the morning before you start it, the longer you wait after you turn it off, the more time you allow for the oil to settle down in the oil pan but it's good enough if you wait around 5 minutes after you shut it down
