headlights on Pontiac Grand Am will not go off

Asked by Guru9VDX3 Mar 08, 2019 at 06:32 PM about the 2003 Pontiac Grand Am

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We were out shopping and the headlights did not go out when we went into the
store.  We are home now, and they still will not go out.

Could be a stuck headlight relay. Open the power distribution box in the engien compartment look on the lid and locate the headlight relay and remove it, if the headlights go out then the first thing to do is check the circuits that activate the relay, if there is no power to the coil side of the relay with the headlight switch off then for sure the relay is stuck closed and just needs replaced. But if there is power to the coil side with the headlight switch off then you either have a bad headlight switch or there is a cross connect in the headlight circuits.
