You don't have to turn anything off. When you remove the radio the theft lock goes with the radio. Just make sure you use an aftermarket wiring harness and don't lop off the factory plug that goes to the radio.

You have to take it to a mechanic who has a Tech ll scan tool. That or a GM dealer.
