Loosening negative battery connection to change batter

Asked by Travis4455 Oct 31, 2012 at 01:55 PM about the 2005 Pontiac Sunfire

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am trying to find a way to loosen the negative battery connection on my sunfire. I tried greaser, the mastercraft loosener for bolts with no more edges. I finally brought out the plyers and tried that but absolutely nothing is working. I'm about to take it to a mechanic just curious on if there is anything else I can do before I do so.

If all else fails cut the cable, right on the very end by the clamp, leaving as much cable as possible left, and buy a new terminal for the cable, making sure there is enough cable to reach after doing so

Carefully cut the rubber around the bolt slide the rubber back then use a pipe wrench with good teeth to grab the shoulder.

Then replace the bolt of course and from now on use the proper metric wrenches on it.
