97 Nissan maxima wont start

Had the car 2 weeks...when I first got it it wouldn't
start the guy said make sure it's in park good I did
it started...it started up after that with lil trouble...it
died when I stopped at a light twice...took Me a bit
to get it to start..yesterday I went to the store and it
wouldn't start...now I'm trying to decide if it's the
starter or could the security system do this

if the shifter has to be finessed, that's where the problem might be- loose linkage, bad switch?
