It sounds like it wants to start but it can't. Got ideas? I'm visiting my mom and need

Apply a little pressure to gas pedal and try to start it. If it starts and stays running while you hold pressure on pedal but dies when you let off its possibly dirty/faulty idle air control valve or dirty throttle plate. If it still does not start might want to check for spark at the spark plugs and fuel pressure at the fuel rail. Which ever is missing will lead you to your issue.
