Need help before giving mechanic ok

I have to replace the two downward sensors on a
Nissan maxima 2000 and they want to do a
reflashing...do you recommend getting it reflashed
first in case if it isn't really the sensors? Was
thinking about buying parts and giving it a go...idk
if that's a bad idea lol  but it could be SOOO
much cheaper if I do!

Why dont the mechanic actually do some testing to see why it so called needs these downstream sensors? Is it a heater circuit malfunction, constant check engine light from p0420 or p0430?
