New motor

Asked by Jan 28, 2019 at 09:56 AM about the 2002 Mitsubishi Montero

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Motor making pecking noises. Mechanic thinks it's the rods? Can that be fixed
or will have to get new motor?  How much would new motor cost?

1 Answer

New engine? Depends on what's damaged. You might just have to replace the bottom end or get a rebuilt short block. Or get a used engine that's in good shape. Might cost $2,000; might cost $4,000. But that would exceed the value of the entire car. Talk to the mechanic.
