Its a Manual correct? I am NOT a mechanic on anything but my 96 Eclipse. But heres somethings to check or have looked at. It could be a Throwout bearing, Master Cylinder, or Cam Shaft Position Sensor malfunction. In my experience when the Cam sensor went it would rev redline and die, was dumping oil etc just running totally crazy. The throwout brng you would have shifting issues badly but most likely you would hear it rattleing, with the master/slave cylinder it would be leaking hyd/brake fluid everywhere and or start to become so difficult to shift ud be cramming the shifter into gear. Not a good thing! Tends to hurt your SYNCRONIZERS. The later 2 might have an effect your rpms. Just some ideas. Good luck!
