ELECTRICAL I assume

Asked by Apr 08, 2018 at 06:04 PM about the 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I purchased car, some lights didn't work & it turned out that prior
owner had run a short-circuit wire instead of fixing a problem and blew all
sorts of stuff. After an $800 repair job, and now, months later (#1 Prob) the
horn doesn't work at all, ever. (#2 Prob) Radio only works sometimes. When
I leave radio knob on, it occasionally comes on while driving or after a new
start but will go off again just as easily. (#3 Prob) Occasionally the flashers
don't work, or they do work for long stretches of time, but one of the blinker
lights for them inside the dash does not. No warranty left for that electrical
job done so, looking for most probable cause. (#4 Prob) My car won't always
start in Park unless I hold the Gear column against the 'P' tight & hard. Yet, it
starts in Neutral. (This is an automatic of course). Be glad for any
suggestions on where to begin looking. My mechanic says he'd have to take
dash off to even check horn stuff & it would be expensive due to that. I think
he is afraid of the radio situation, though (ha ha).
