95’ 6.5 TD check engine at curtain RPM

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hey just looking for advice. Got a 95’ 6.5 TD.
Engine light comes on at 2500 rpm when
decelerating, then goes off right away when either
accelerate or let slow to lower rpm.
Also has a little bit of a rough cold start with a puff
of white smoke but starts great when she’s warm

Ran the codes 34 - injection timing stepper motor
fault, and code 36 - injection pulse width error long
duration.
I checked all my grounds and plugs.
Started putting lubricity formula fuel conditioner in
a few tanks ago.
My PMD has bin upgraded and relocated with fan
and cooling fins to cooler spot.

Should I change my stepper motor?
Is my IP starting to go?
Or could my timing chain be worn?
Or what do you think?
