Did you ever have the tranny serviced , probably not , transmission fluid & filter changed at about every 60,000 miles , Neglecting to have the tranny serviced is the # 1 reason for tranny failure The converter locking up

I only got the car about a year ago & no I’ve never had it serviced. So you think that’s the problem? That I need a new transmission?

No try having the tranny fluid & filter changed first that means having the tranny pan removed & a new filter installed , Don't get a tranny flush

All is good advise on the transmission, but I don't think that is the problem, unless the transmission is slipping. If everything seems fine with the engine, holding steady rpms at idle and under load, then have the trany serviced as AnarchyAngel suggests.
