My 2002 cougar will not transfer power to the drive wheels when I let out the clutch

Asked by DW34 Jul 07, 2015 at 07:21 AM about the 2002 Mercury Cougar

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Engine running fine, when I push in the clutch and shift into gear and let out the clutch the
car only starts to roll very very slowly and the motor can still rev up in rpm with very little
power getting transferred to the drive wheels. Is this a bad clutch, it just happened all in
one day went from good to bad.

Sounds like the clutch disc or pressure plate is bad. Does it make any unusual noises?

No noises that are out of the normal.... Just won't put power into the drive wheels. I was thinking clutch but did not have any real experiance with this. and was looking for some thoughts. Thanks
