Is there a recall on the transmission

Asked by Mar 28, 2008 at 07:36 PM about the 2003 Mercury Sable

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 Sable, I've had it for 6mo. We just had to bring it to the shop because it would fail to change gears (it's an automatic) at about 2nd gear. I would have to pull over and stop than restart. When i brought it to the shop it has a part in the transmission that controls that and the sable has a tend. to NOT REALIZE it's driving and doesn't change gears. WOW how could this NOT be recalled? He says it's common on this car. Common enough for them to notice means it should be recalled right? Is it recalled and i don't know about it? thanks

no recall i know of.

I recently purchased a 2003 mercury sable wagon with now 91,800miles on the engine. It is having the exact same problem except that I haven’t had to pull over and restart the car, YET! I figured it was worth looking into for a possible recall and I am shocked to see there isn’t one since many ppl seem to have the same issue. I have noticed when I feel it not changing gear that letting off the gas a little and slowly accelerating again works as for right now. Time will tell.... I am nervous to have a flush of my fluid because whenever I have had other vehicles with a similar problem, once I do that it seems to speed up the process of needing to rebuild my Tranny. Thankfully it was purchased for only $1,000.00 and everything else aside works great!
