Why would it not be a design to have the door lock after being more than 5 feet away with key FOB detection?

Question type: General

The FOB is detected for the keyless entry. Why could the car doors not be locked automatically after the key FOB has left the area ? Would be a nice feature.

One issue I see with is what happens when the FOB's battery dies. Usually the backup is to use the physical key to get in the car and then start the car by pressing the FOB onto the start button. An autolock feature might interfere with that.

Good point. I guess I'd want the car also to give me some kind of notice when the FOB is low on energy thus avoiding the lock out issue. I thought I could avoid the inconvenience of wondering whether or not I locked it after being inside of a store. I have the Sirius Guardian option so I could lock it from my phone, I suppose. You can get into the car, but maybe starting it could be an issue? Thanks for that answer.
