Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Your Lucky Day. My information shows that your 1998 Mazda Millenia came with three different V6 engines, a 2.0, a 2.3 and a 2.5 liter and they are all NON-interference engines. So "catastrophic engine damage" did not occur. A good economical mechanic can replace that belt for about $500, mostly labor. Make sure he knows how to do them as they need to be timed to run right.

You can have it checked and see if it's still good but in many cases when a car jumps time or snaps a timing belt, it does other internal damage to the engine.

If the valves are bent you may be able to just rebuild the head, not the entire engine.

Sorry I didn't get your name but it don't matter,on your Mazda ,wether it's 2.5 or 2.3 ,neither one of them are interference engines.so that been said u go ahead and have a dependable technision or honest I should say,to just replace the rimming belt only.make sure he gets the rimming belt kit.which comes with pullys ,belt, water pump.thats all u will need.do not let them tell any different.i have been doing this for last 35yrs and still doing it any questions write back I'll be more then happy to help you.Good luck.
