I have a 1999 Mazda 626 that's 2.0L 4 cyl, would it be possible to put an engine from a 1997 Mazda 626 2.0L 4 cyl?

Both years appear to use the same engine. 2.0L FS-DE I4. You should not have any trouble swapping them out. Might have to swap some of the electronics off the 99 and put on the 97 in order for computer to work right.
