Timing belt

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Can I get my timing belt timed if the old one is not
available? I have a mechanic who has 14 yrs
experience but hasn't dealt with my car and can't
get it. No repair manual. Tried the internet but don't
want to buy one. Tried YouTube and the one video
did not help. What can I do?

Those engine timing belts are easily available at the parts store and online cheap. I think your mechanic is trying to politely tell you that he doesn't want to get into difficult repair like that and I don't blame him. This not a job for the shade tree mechanic. If you don't get it timed right, it will likely wreck the engine.
