Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi I have a 71 Chevy c10 with a 305 engine and a
700 transmission I recently got it back up the par
inspected and tagged and as I was driving it home
from school I got up to 20mph and my engines
started spinning out getting extremely loud and not
going faster than 20 I let of the gas and it was just
fine any speed before 20 but everytime I got back
up to 20 it would do it again only way to get over
was to floor it but the engine would make a bad
sound what is this. I have already drained the
transmission fluid and oil cleaned out the
transmission of some gunk and added new fluids
and it is still doing this do I need a new
transmission or what is happening please help.

Check your passing gear kickdown cable and see if it is stuck wide open take it all loose from the carburetor and see if it still does it

Whether it be a kickdown cable or passing gear linkage whatever it is see if it is staying with the governor kicked in for passing

Sounds like the governor is sticking or the gear on it is broken. It's not a hard fix
