2000 LINCOLN TOWN CAR TROUBLE STARTING AND ROUGH DRIVING at 30 - 45 mph

I just had a few rainy days here and when I went to start the car it took 5 tries to get it going. Now it bucks when accelerating between 30 - 45 mph. check engine light came on.
what could it be and is the engine toast from the rain?
