The panel where the status bar and AC vents is located needs to be pried open. It is clipped in. I will bet the status bar is broken at the screw joint on the side that is pushed in. I took it apart and superglued the plastic piece that was broken and reattached the staus bar and everything works fine

The panel is made of Cheap Plastic; If you push any button to hard the plastic bar behind the Vent panel will break. I bought a new panel for $75.00 while they were still available.
