I've been having that same issue with my 2016 Chevy Malibu for now 2 years. I took it back to dealership supposedly it got fixed in one day. 2 months later I took it back the dealership kept my car 20 days supposedly it was fixed again now it's doing the same thing again except it's doing the same thing again. Smh like you said nothing will be done until someone dies. I mean I was on the interstate doing 60 miles with a semi truck behind me when it decided to reduce power

My 2017 Chevy Malibu 37,430 started to do that. It did that twice and the issue disappeared and it did that again while on the high way. I almost got hit by two cars from the side and a semi on my left. I called the dealership and they said my bumper to bumper is over at 37,000. Auto zone ran the check engine test and it showed that the gas pedal is not detecting my foot. Lol. I have not taken it anywhere but will soon.

My 2018 Malibu did this on the highway today. I’ve never been more scared in my life. Literally just bought it back in October. It’s Memorial Day weekend so no one can help me.

Reduced engine power 2017 Malibu. This has been happening periodically since I got the 2.5 years ago. Dealer either we fixed couldn’t find anything. I used to resolve itself by turning car off and back on. Today I did the 11 times before I could drive it. And it started happening while I’m on the freeway. The car has 18,000 miles!! Calling dealer tomorrow to pick it and calling GMC to get out of the lease. This is my fourth Chevy and I’ve never had any issues. Unlikely I will get another Chevy.

I guess I was pretty pissed when I posted a minute ago because I clearly left out descriptive words in my post. I’m so mad I’m shaking.

For all owners of 2016-2018 Chevy Malibu. There is a law suite on Top Class Action against GM. Knowing there is defect on those models and did nothing about it. Go to the page Top Class Action and submit your claim.

At this point I’m ready to do a class action lawsuit and write a review on the BBB for CHEVORLET because at this point I’ve read ENOUGH blogs on people REPORTING this same issue ‼️ I have a 2017 Chevy Malibu and have not had it 6months yet ‼️ I am beyond pissed seeing so many people say how this happened on the highway and how scared they were. It happened to me today on the highway and no car is worth my damn life .

My 2016 Malibu started doing this last week. Received a letter from GM in August stating that it a bad sensor on the accelerator pedal. Call a GM dealership and they will fix it for free or if you already paid to have it fixed, they say they will reimburse you.

I did not receive sny notice from GM, but I took my car to a dealership and THEY had a norice. They will fix sticky pedal (engine light and refuced power) & 'shift to park' problem. If your car is not under warranty get rid of it.

This happened to my 2017 Malibu hybrid when travelling through the east coast of Canada very bad timing the dealer said it was not under warranty and I have to pay I’m really hoping there is a recall for this issue

The dealer has replaced several sensors and rewired the car twice, usually they just say the car works for them. After the last rewire they didn’t reinstall the wiring harness correctly and within 2 days had the same issue. I insisted they let me out of my lease. They gave me a loaner and 10 days later it was fixed, so far. I will never get another Malibu and it is unlikely I’ll get another Chevy. I’ve had three chevys previous to this and have never needed more than an oil change.

It turns out that , eventually, after the tps"throttle position sensor" gives out, the next problem will revert to cylinder 1 misfire and after chevy "fixes " it, it will probably be too late and they will deem your engine irreplaceable and then and only then you will be done for . They know anout this issue and refuse to put a recall on it, instead leave us helpless people screwed . All these same problems are happining to all of us the same and something needs to be done,CHEVY!! Im with the rest of these nice ppl on here and say get rid of your chevy Malibu or chevy period, and if your interested, dont buy lease chevy ,give it back trade it in or simply dont . Choice is yours.

Latest thing on my Malibu is the info screen has gone blank. It came back on but I don't know for how long.

THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR replaced Dec 2019 in my 2017 Malibu with 40k kms. They also fixed the 'shift to park' problem (car keeps indicating I have to shift to park even though It's in park), mostly happened on rainy days. Had to wait a few days for parts to come in, was fixed in half a day, no charge, under warranty. GM dealer in my town (in Ontario, Canada), says GM hasn't issued a recall because the problem isn't with ALL 2017 Malibus.

This shit is very annoying bcuz we could’ve been rammed off the road on numerous occasions and we were late for work due to the bullshit, brought it to dealership and they gave a brother a ton of shit talking about some warranty expired but this piece of shit was doing that before warranty expired!! Need to really file class act lawsuit!!

I have been having the same problem with my 2018 Malibu, both with the shift to park, and reduced power.

I am filing with the government to get a check to see if they can do a recall, here is the web site to file File a Vehicle Safety Complaint | Safercar.gov | NHTSA https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint

My 2012 Malibu just started shaking while parked and gave me the messafes: " reduced pwr", "service escape", and something about "traction off". I turned it off and on twice. No change the first time. On the 2nd try, I took out the key and I opened and closed the door. It turned on normal, with good idle, but now my check engine light is on.

Crank sensor Causes the vehicle to.loos power or studder. Bounce in park while stopped sometimes not start like it's a bad starter.

I have a 2015 Chevy Malibu LT and having the same issues as all listed, SMH, it’s such a headache, I just had the o2 sensor replaced, drive for about 10-15 minutes, check engine light pops on, driving and stopping for about another hour- service traction comes on and then a few seconds later reduce engine power- scared the heck out of me. I’ve had this car for 5 years- 85,000 miles, the freaking loan is almost paid off yet it’s acting up, so annoyed I feel like screaming! Any advice please share, thank you!

I have a 2017 chevy malibu have has same issue. Check engine light and power reduce failure while driving on highway. Took it to chevy dealership they said it wasnt part lf safety bulletin only dirty throttle so i had to pay 129 for diagnostic. Next day same issue happped while driving. Its a reaccuring isssue with malibus. I have submitted safety issue with national safety board and habe reached to law firm that is representing two separate cases in ny and md.

I just started having same problem with my 2017 Malibu the day after I got the car back from the dealership for recall repairs I drove straight home, parked, turned engine off and it started chiming with message on dash to "shift to park" when the car was already in park. The following day while driving on the freeway when I pushed the accelerator I felt the car loose power, hesitate then speed up a little but then loose power, hesitate then accelerate again all the way home it got so bad I thought the car was going to break down and the check engine light came on. Within the first week of getting the car back from dealership service I started to have all kinds of problems, shift to park warning, check engine light on, check battery light on, battery charging system active, check battery charging system warnings. Every time I start the car one or more of these things happen. Dealerships telling me battery needs replaced and the shift assembly. I didn't have any of these problem with the car when I left it at the dealership for the recall repair, battery is still fairly new it was replaced about 6 months ago and I don't replacing the shift assembly has anything to do with the engines power issue and my car is out of warranty. I don't see the information about the class action that was referred to at top of page. Also, I'm wondering if anyone else has had an issue with the air condenser, due to poor placement and bad design, easily punctured, a pebble popped up and punctured my air condenser while under warranty but dealership said it's not covered by warranty because it was punctured, its considered road hazard.

November 25 2020 - 15 seconds after pulling out of my driveway this issue happened to me as well. it would not accelerate over 37 mph so i pulled into a walgreens parking lot turned the car off twice and oj the second time it went away. Not 10 minutes later i pulled onto the highway and as im merging it happens again and consistently reduced my speer to 50 mph. I was terrified for my life being how it was 5am and raining and being on the road with mostly semi trucks. Not sure how to fix it or who to go to since clearly based off past reviews your dealership does not want to help fix the problem long term. 36000 was the end of my warranty and it happened 300 miles over the warranty. The last time I was at the Hawk Chevy dealership in Joliet, Il i had them check out an engine light that read "fuel too lean" and was told they had no idea what it was about or how to fix it. As i was finishing up the clerk asked my opinion how the Cars acceleration was and me not knowing anything about cars told him idk fine I guess. Just another reason in my opinion on how nobody in this business is to be fully trusted.

I'm in tampa florida I have a 2017 malibu and I have the same problem with the engine power reduced light that came on a couple of months ago. I never took it to the dealership just called for a price for diagnosis price, but today after reading the reviews I don't think that contacting them with the ongoing issues will do me any good to ask if the will fix it for free after reading these posts. This needs the attention of all News Channels and Chevy HQ. I need this issue fixed!
