Read your owners manual but you should be able to set the dome light switch to "door".

You have to go to the customizable settings in the menu on your nav screen, at least that's how I had to turn mine on it was set to off originally. Then once you do that press the button on your rear view mirror. You can also change the amount of time you want them to stay on after door is closed in the same place : )

I recently drove a 2018 Camry hybrid. I agree, the manual isn’t very clear, as there’s no explicit how-to. Answer: On some models the door light switch is on the front dome light, above the windshield. On others it’s on the rear dome light, in the middle of the vehicle.

My 2019 front dome light will not come on when door is opened. Also have smart key and when I approach the car no light comes on inside. I had a 2016 corolla and it have lights come on when I approached the car. And the Camry should have it seeing how its more expensive. I will complain to Toyota about this.

I just purchased a 2016 Camry SE no moonroof. There are two sets of interior dome lights, one near the front of the car and those turn on only if you manually push the clear plastic covering. The second set is near the center of the car and there is a small switch. If you want the lights to turn on when you open the door set the switch to the center spot and the lights will come on and switch off when you open the door. Try it a couple of times and remember that the light illuminates gradually and turns off after a delay.

There is no switch by the dome light in my Camry. Ever since I let someone else drive my car the interior lights do not come on when I open the door.

In my2017 Avalon Hybrid- two buttons center near sunroof controls. Hit DOOR while door is open- both DOME lights should come on. When door is shut, they should fade off.

I don’t know if you ever fix the problem but the only solution that i found is to wire the rear lights to the front with some oneway flow diode in the middle

Thank You Thein! Had an issue with the interior light NOT going off. The owners manual does not cover this issue. I read your thoughts found the switch you mentioned all is well. Thank You again :)

On the dome light in the center of the ceiling there is a 3-way switch Off-Doors-On. Set to middle setting for them to come on when you unlock the car or open a door.

There is a button next to the map lights. The right light button turns on both lights when in the car. The left light button controls the lights to come on or not come on when a door is opened. That's how it works on my 2017 xle. Good luck. BMWGUY.l

On my 2012 I had the same question, although my question was about the FRONT dome lights and they will NOT come on automatically when the door is open. Only the CENTER dome light will and the controls to turn on, off or auto are on THAT light.

I don't think the front interior lights are supposed to come on when the door is opened. Only the rear interior lights. The front only comes on when you press them. Otherwise, they would have a button on them to control it. So, you have to set the rear light switch to door control and only have that light come on.
